The New Brunswick Highlands is an area made up of the Notre Dame Mountains, Miramichi Highlands, and Chaleur Uplands which covers much of northwestern New Brunswick. The highlands are part of the Appalachian Mountains which leads up from the United States up through Newfoundland. The highest peak in these highlands is Mount Carleton at 817 meters. The land in this area is not level and very rugged.
