Orthoclase (Formula KAlSi3O8), is an important tectosilicate mineral, which forms from or near igneous rock. It's known as Alkali Feldspar; is common in granite and some related rocks. Orthoclase is derived from the Greek phrase, "Straight Fracture". Orthoclase is also known as Moonstone. Orthoclase is the birthstone of June, along with pearl.
