Limestone is a sedimentary rock primarily made from the mineral Calcite. Limestone contains amounts of silica in forms of chert and flint, in quantities that may vary from rock to rock.

Pure limestone is almost white; due to impurities, such as clay & sand, but many limestones exhibit different colors, especially on weathered surfaces. The impurities in Limestone will sometimes become very large and eat out the limestone block.
Overview[]
Limestone makes up about 10% of the total volume of all sedimentary rocks. Coastal limestones are often eroded by organisms which bore into the rock by various means. Crystals of calcite, quartz, dolomite, or barite may line small cavities in the rock. Limestone is used in many things, such as building structures.
