Coesite is a form of silicon dioxide that is formed when high pressure and temperatures of over 700 degrees Celsius is applied to quartz. Coesite has helped to support one side of an extensive theory that the Barringer Crater was either formed by a meteor impact or an atomic explosion. Coesite has a light tan appearance with gold colored streaks.
