The Bankfull stage of something is the height of water in a natural channel at its maximum height before flooding. If the water level exceeds the bankfull limit, then a flood will occur. Bankfull measurements can help to tell geomorphologists important information about flooding frequency and stream characteristics such as Manning's n, wetted perimeter, and other stream analysis measurements.
