Aluminium'(or 'aluminum) is a ductile metal, and element with the atomic number of 13 on the periodic table of the elements. Electron configuration is (Ne 3s23p1) It is the most abundant metal on the earth's crust and third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon). It makes up about 8%, by weight, of the Earth's solid surface. It is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminum is bauxite.
This mineral has a silver white color, and is a soft ductile metal. Aluminium is well known for its low density and for its ability to resist corrosion (due to the phenomenon of passivation). It is also a very good conductor of electricity and is used by many people in daily life. An example is that aluminium and its alloys are vital for the airospace industry.
