Aluminium' (or 'aluminum) is a ductile metal, and element with the atomic number of 13 on the periodic table of the elements. Electron configuration is (Ne 3s23p1) It is the most abundant metal on the earth's crust and third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon). It makes up about 8%, by weight, of the Earth's solid surface.  It is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminum is bauxite. This mineral has a silver white color, and is a soft ductile metal. Aluminium is well known for its low density and for its ability to resist corrosion (due to the phenomenon of passivation). Aluminum CompoundsEdit

There are many aluminum compounds, caused by forming of other minerals in the infrastructure. A list is below:

  • Aluminum borate (Al2O3 B2O3) is used in the production of glass.
  • Aluminum borohydride (Al(BH4)3) is used as an additive to jet fuel.
  • Aluminum chloride (AlCl3) is used in paint manufacturing, in antiperspirants, in the production of synthetic rubber,and in petroleum and oil refining.
  • Aluminum chlorohydride (AlCl3H) is used in the treatment of hyperhidrosis.
  • Aluminum fluorosilicate (Al2(SiF6)3) is used in the production of synthetic gemstones and ceramic.
